Start a planned shift early
How operators can start a planned shift early from Shift View instead of creating an extra shift, and what limits apply.
On this page
We understand that production doesn't always stick to the schedule, and operators sometimes begin their workday earlier. To improve this, we've added a new feature that lets operators to start planned shifts early without the need to create an extra shift.
Starting a planned shift early ensures that all work is captured within the main shift, providing more accurate data and smoother operations.
How to start a planned shift early?
This feature is available when there is no ongoing shift
-
In Shift View, click on the dotted icon in the bottom left corner and open "Start shift":
-
In the opened modal, starting a planned shift early is on the right (extra shift option is on the left):
-
Click on "Start early"
-
Adjust the starting time as you need (within the possible timeframe) and click on "Save"
- If there are multiple dates possible, you can select the date (first field).
- The range is current time - 24h until the planned end time -1min, or current time +24h, which ever comes first.
Why can't I change the planned end time?
The planned shift end time field is disabled, because it is always the time that is set in the shift settings.
However, there is one exception:
- If starting a shift early makes the shift exceed 24 hours, the end time will be adjusted to fit within the 24-hour limit (upon opening the modal, user already sees the set end time).
- End time can be adjusted when editing the planned shift time.
What happens if I delete the shift I started early?
If the shift is started early, then finished and then is deleted, then the system will fill the gaps and place the planned shift to Shift View in its full length.
Example:
I started a planned shift early at 10:30 (Day shift was initially planned to 11:00-14:00). Now it's 12:00 and I finish that shift and also delete it. What happens in Shift View is that after some time I see the planned "Day" shift is live and started at 11:00.
Why does it say there is no planned shift?
We are showing the planned shift in the Start shift modal if its start time is within next 24h. If it is not, the modal looks like this:
